Care and Renovation
Gentle care keeps solid wood in service for decades
Clean with dry microfibers and pH-neutral black soap, protect against humidity with yearly wax or drying oil, and treat heat rings and water spots with targeted drying rather than sanding. Patina is part of the story.
The restoration procedure
Four stages, in order
Diagnose the surface first, then degrease, selectively raise the grain where damage is confined, and finish with an oil that nourishes the timber without building a film on top.

Documented remedies
Water stains, sun fading, and scratches
Water stains
Dry the area gently, then re-oil the spot to even the sheen. Sanding is rarely needed and removes the original finish.
Sunlight oxidation
Refresh the surface with a matching oil or wax and rotate objects over time. Light-driven color change is part of the patina.
Surface scratches
Fine marks respond to a light rub with matching oil. Deep gouges call for a selective repair, leaving the baseline timber intact.
